Why you'd want this. If you fine-tune, quantize, merge or distill a model you ship, an X-ray shows — layer by layer — where the change landed and whether your knowledge quietly regressed: facts that broke, facts that now read as less certain inside the model even when the answer still looks right. Output-only evals miss that last one by construction. Bring the same model before and after your next training run and the comparison reads it for you.
